PUNISHMENT & BEHAVIOUR
No - as long as they have been convicted of a crime in the USA which carries a prison sentence of more than 5 years they can be from any country in the world.
All characters must be over the age of 18. Under this age they would have been treated as a minor when convicted. The programme is only open to legal adults.
No, R R I wants to build a community, and they see part of that as allowing people to express individuality. As such, normal clothes are allowed.

The internet is a wonderful tool for research, but we know that working this stuff out is not always easy! We would suggest that you look at links such as A report on crimes with mandatory prison sentences (Connecticut) or The US Sentencing Commission Guidelines as a good starting point (sorry, thay second one is long!). We're not looking for exact calculations or anything, just try and be vaguely realistic.
Yes, your character must have a sentence of 5 years or longer.
As long as it's reasonable, feasible and carries a sentence of more than 5 years, not particularly. Also, we're looking for balance in game, which means that we do not want to end up with a cast where everyone is a murderer, or everyone is a [fill in the blank] crime. We would recommend you check out what characters are already in game before applying.
In this game, we have separated 'history' out into three different sections.
Yes - in fact, we kind of expect that for some people! The application form has two crime history sections. One is for what the papers published about your character when they were convicted (which we expect to be about proven guilt of your character) and one about what really happened. This second set is private between you as a player and the mods. Sure, sometimes the two will be the same, but it is expected that a lot of the time there will be some difference.
No - it is up to you whether your character tells the truth or lies through their teeth.
Your character has been selected to join in the R R I program. They were not actually asked to participate, the decision was out of their hands. They are put into the facility, and depending on their actions, they may 'graduate' the program eventually. How long a duration that is isn't specified. If one graduates, the reward is substantial. They will be considered for parole(regardless of if that was a possibility previously), and should it be granted, they will have a new life waiting for them. That includes a sizable bank account and a new identity provided so they may start life over from scratch.
If your character is deemed unsuccessful in their participation in the program, they will be returned to the main prison population without warning.
This is what will happen if anyone leaves the game. If people leave and return, their character can always come back. For hiatus purposes(since real life always comes first!) characters will not be in the facility for that game day, and will return the next, for 'assessment' purposes we will explain to the player when they come back.
At this time, these are not allowed by the program.
If your character wants to send personal correspondence, that's fine (post it as a letter in your journal and marked as such), but at the moment, replies will not be received.
You can take it as read that your character would have been given the birth control of their choice. We're leaving it up to you as to whether it works or not. However, if you are considering a pregnancy plot, we do expect you to talk to the mods about this in advance.
Yes, your character can make requests through the journal system (see below). There is no guarantee that these requests will be filled - much of that depends on your character's behaviuor and the reasonableness of the request. Explanations are not always given, nor any kind of timescale promised. The mods do keep a list of the requests though, so they are not forgotten about!
As explained above, we make no guarantees that requests will be filled. If it is the Facility Administrations decision not to fill the request at all, because it is either not needed (for example already available in the facility) or entirely unacceptable then your character will receive a communication to that effect in a time update. Otherwise, the request is on a list and may be filled sometime in the future. Often requests are filled as a recognition of good behaviour.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FACILITY
A plan and description of the Facility can be found here.
Yes, food and drink (including the alcohol at the bar) is restocked on a regular basis. That said, if you character (or a group of characters) decides to drink the bar dry one night then the bar will not miraculously fill up with alcohol again the next day. It is likely that there will be a time during which there will be nothing available - in such a case, the mods will specify when alcohol is available again.
The facility has been designed so there is no obvious way out. It is only two floor high, but the outer walls had no doors or windows in them. The elevator only gives the option of ‘level 1’ and ‘basement’ (the basement level is only accessible at certain times). There is no obvious way up onto the roof either. The outside walls of the facility are all smoothly rendered, making climbing pretty much impossible and there are no ladders high enough to reach contained within the facility.
There is a garbage shoot in the cafeteria on the wall by the elevator.
Honesty? If your character really wants to try and escape by jumping down the garbage shoot, then nothing is stopping them. They will, of course, have to deal with the in character consquences of that, which will be brought into play by the mods if someone does try it!
No - there are no guards in the facility, therefore there are no checks or curfews.
Yes - the facility brought in a credits system on day 11. Each character receives a tag which is stored with a number of credits. These credits can be ‘spent’ in the facility store to purchase items. Further information can be found here
Each character is given a steel bangle on which is a round steel tag with a QR code etched into it. Each code is unique to the resident. Residents can customise the bangles as much as they wish, or transfer the code tag to a necklace/keyring/anything else.
There is a Facility Store which sells items, plus the bar runs on a credits system to purcahse alcohol etc
We are trying not to overcomplicate matters with this. Because of this, it is not the mods’ intention to keep a track of how much your character has earned, or not earned, or put specific amounts on what things can be bought and sold for. Things just get tied up in knots that way. What we ask is that you be sensible and responsible about things. If your character works hard, then they’ll have credits. If they slack off, they won’t be able to afford luxuries. Be vague, don’t put too much emphasis on things and hopefully this will all work out!
Yes, official positions can be held by characters. More information can be found here.

ABOUT MY ROOM
In everyone's room there are the same things. No room is different to start with, including color (the walls are a light green color). There's a single bed, a wardrobe, a desk with a desk top computer (not a laptop), a loveseat, and an end table in the main room. In the bathroom, there's a toilet, a sink, and a bathtub. In both rooms, there are some shelves set into the walls. On the back of the outside door to each room is a map of the facility, and one can be printed out from the computer.
Yes - there are various colours of wall paint in the tool shed, along with rollers, brushes etc.
The front wall of each room has the door to the outside and, set to each side of the door, a large window. In effect, aside from where the door is, that wall is all windows. To ensure privacy as and when required, there are full length curtains which can be drawn across.
Each character starts the game with 7 sets of clothing (sleepwear is provided as extra) which have been chosen to fit their 'normal' style. It is up to you what these outfits consist of.
The computer has a back catalogue of TV, film and music available.
Yes - your character will have a key to their room also
Each computer has access to the internal intranet that runs round the facility. Each character has a journal, which they are required to keep. By default, journal entries are readable by all other characters. Any journal entry marked 'private' is not readable by any other character.
Also available on the intranet is a system for messaging. Characters can send private messages to each other. They can also send private messages to the jailers.
If you want your character to send a private message to another character, simply do this in a journal entry entitled 'Private to [other character]: [Any title to the message]'
If you want your character to send a private message to the jailers simply do this in a journal entry entitled 'Contact Form: [whatever you want to title the message]'
The computers are designed so people can log in and out of their accounts, meaning if someone logs out of their own account, someone else could log in on that computer and post.
Each character is given a four digit PIN code which is unique to them and which can be used to log into the computers and also check credit balances.

PUNISHMENT AND BEHAVIOUR
So long as the violence is cleared with the other players, yes. There are no guards in the facility, therefore no one is going to break anything up.
There will be punishments meted out by the organization, what those are remain to be seen!
The facility is set up to encourage the formation of a community that allows people to learn to live by the rules without being told to at every turn. Therefore, there are no visible guards. There is, however, no way out of the facility and the entire facility is wired for CCTV. The residents are being watched, and assessed at every turn. Good behaviour will be rewarded, bad behaviour will be punished. The aim is for people to learn to self-correct their behaviour and encourage others to do the same.
Sure do! Solitary confinement is a real possibility. Characters have also, in the history of the game, been placed in stocks in the courtyard.
We will run the game using 'game days', which will be marked by a mod post that tells everyone what the weather is like, if there are any events happening, etc. There will be several real days to every game day, to ensure people have time to get everything in. We will post a warning to let people know when the day is changing.
Yes! Filling in important blanks in character's histories is always fun and informative. Flashbacks are perfectly fine, just mark them as 'flashback' instead of 'day ___ '.
Tags required for scene posts are the following: day tag, pm(if it's a private message) journal, single character names, if there's more than one character, the pairing, alphabetically. ('bob and jane' instead of 'jane and bob')
A typical scene's tags should look like this: Day 1, bob, jane, bob and jane
